Home and sad news

I have returned home from MO and a wonderful visit with Lacy. Her graduation and her reaction to my weight loss were great!! She didn't recognize me which was a strange feeling. Doesn't she look grown up and serious?? She sure has changed!! Sad news for us today as we lost a good friend Kevin E from Fremont OH. He was a postal worked w/dh and the father of some really special young men. Our hearts are broken at his unnecesary loss. Working on my embroidery and listening to books on tape today has kept me going, trying to get back into the swing of life at home again.

Seeing DD

Today I got to see my youngest DD after 6 mos!! I was so excited, today was Family Day here at Fort Leonard Wood. We went to awards ceremony and had time with Lacy. Tomorrow is graduation and then she leaves for SC and I leave to come back home to AZ. Sorry this is a lousy picture, will add better ones when I am home. A wonderful day but it passed too quickly!! I will hate to leave her again tomorrow but I must, at least for awhile til the kidney transplant issue is resolved. Her Braxton will be glad to fly home to her next week and be at his real home again!! I am so lucky to be able to be here with her!!

Father's Day

To honor the two men in my life: I choose to use baby pictures, aren't they cute!! Both of them are my heros, My Dad, who I lost in exactly 25 years ago this month and my wonderful hubby Ken who I have been married to for 18 years. They both have blessed my life so much and been wonderful fathers. Ken has been a better father to my girls then the men who are their fathers. He is a prize!!

Pretty Pink Dish

Yesterday was $1 day at Goodwill and I needed to run away for a minute or two....I found this gorgeous dish, a wooden cheese box, and some crochet threads!! I have a few shadows in my pic as Max (see his paw on the left side) thought he should help me out. On Wed my dear friend Kalli's uncle passed away, so life continues to be alittle busy. Funeral is not until Tues when I will be in MO w/DD so I am alittle sad by that, I had wanted to be here. I can't give up my time w/Lacy, as I have waited what seems like forever.

Life stomps on

Just to let you know I am here but between doctor appts and trying to spend time w/my BFF, Kalli who is here visiting I just haven't gotten much accomplished!! She is here because her Uncle Donald is very ill and she is supporting her mom Agnes. So I am another line of support for both of them, trying to do airport runs for arriving family, giving her clothes that no longer fit (yeah) so she doesn't need to buy anything, I hope and just listening. Hubby's stress test went well on Mon so Fri we should know for sure if he is cleared for kidney transplant. I have hit my goal weight to donate to a stranger if need be so that he in turn would get a live donation. There is still hope that our sweet Lacy will be able to donate to hubby and that will solve some problems for all of us. Next week is her graduation and the first time we have seen each other in 5 1/2 mos. Does it sound like I was counting the days?? Some days it is hard to be a mom even when they are adults. I hope to be back soon with new pictures!

Giraffe CQ

Here is a picture of the Giraffe Crazy quilt wall hanging that I am making for Eliana who will be 5 yo in July. She was here in AZ when she was 2 and we went to see the animals and that is all she remembers of the trip is Peapaw feeding the giraffes!! I hope she likes this. I have to add the backing, which is ready to go and then it is off to Ohio. I should get this done tomorrow. I have also started a CQ bracelet, as seen in the Se Somerset, pg 12 by Pat Winter. The woman's CQ rocks!! I have her book and some of her work...yes I love her work!! I also started another art quilt background from a beautiful piece of home dec fabric a freebie from fellow Doll Club pal Debbie. Unsure what picture will end up on that one, will share when it is done.

When all else fails: SEW

Today has been one of those days. I spent most of it organizing my spare room, which is the office and the storage for Etsy. Of course the truth is I needed something and couldn't find it so the cleaning began!! Check out my Etsy site for craft books that I listed yesterday, need to make some room here!!! LOL I found a piece of fabric that was in with the pile to sell on Etsy and couldn't figure out why I had put it in there, I really liked it. I pulled it out to save and the more I looked at it I think it spoke to me. A skirt would be easy and fun so off I went. Just something simple w/elastic at the waist. Lots easier and cheaper than going shopping!! I am real happy with how it turned out, less than an hour and it was done. Here is a picture of the fabric. I found 2 more pieces that could make cute skirts so I guess the sewing machine and I will be together this week!!

Bargains and Transfers

First the fun: shopping at Goodwill this AM for pants but instead I got bargains!! I got a beautiful ivory satin and lace wedding dress for $7.50!! They thought it was stained and someone had dragged it around the store so the hem was dirty! After an easy bath in the washer it is stain free and so beautiful!! I also found an adorable little pink purse and some cute ornaments, yes everything is full of glitter and shine, what can I say!!! This afternoon I decided to experiment with transfers from paper to fabric using Golden Medium. I did some direct magazine picture prints and then used the clear shelf liner to transfer some old pictures. The magazine pictures were so easy and a great success. Only one of the pictures "worked". I guess I need to experiment further!! Maybe I will try the picture with out the shelf liner and see what happens!! Since I have such a large amount of ivory satin I may try to do some shaving cream painting on fabric, sounds like tomorrows project!

Art Quilt Hanger

Since I have been making a couple of these small art quilts I was looking for a way to hang them. I found several premade ones that were $3.75 and up. Well being the cheap soul that I am I decided to try to make my own. Pictured here is what I came up with. I used old fashioned men's pants hangers bought 3 for $3.50 at Big Lots. I painted this one, added a paper doily, ribbon and a piece of hand dyed lace. This will work out well for what I was looking for and I plan to spend more time designing the next one. It didn't take much time and was cheap enough!!
