Puzzle piece and completed swap

I have completed the swap with Amber. I used a CD as the base for the size and shape. After I completed the CQ side I added matching fabric to the back, sewed the circle almost shut then added the CQ with quilt batting on both sides. To finish it off I added white ribbon trim around the edge. I am happy with the way it turned out and hope that Amber will be too. I am also working on a matching puzzle piece. This is a first for me. I got the pattern from Pat Winter, Winter Gatherings and I am having a great time with it! I have this one just about ready to 0put together and have already started to piece a Christmas one in mostly reds. Should be fun, I can see more in my future!!

Let There be Fairies!!

There has been alot of talk about fantasy landscape on the CQ4N list and it has inspired me to give it a try. At this point I have a very limited stash here so working on this was not easy. I am thinking trees, water, fairies..... I am not thrilled with the fabrics I used but as I said did the best I could with what I have. I am not sure where the stitching will lead but time will tell. I used batiks except for the sky which is blue silk, due to the small amounts of solid blue I had to piece the sky, not happy about that. I can't wait to work on this. DD has plans for painting the guest (our room at this time LOL) room on Sat, not much stitching will get done but I can work when the paint is drying!!

Work on my autumn block

I have started to work on my autumn block for CQ4N list. I love the colors and fabric that I picked out before I left AZ. I have worked 2 seams, one is almost done, the other complete. I have tried to use multiple stitches on one seam and although it is far from perfect it has turned out pretty well. I have alot more that I would like to do on it. DD and I have spent alot of time cleaning up the front yard and cleaning out boxes here at her house. I have included a picture of our new home, isn't it pretty??

Swap with Amber

This is a WIP that I am working on to swap with Amber in OH. It will be round when it is done with the focal fabric as the backing. I love the focal fabric even though I am not a big fan of blue. The tiny print and the snowflakes are so cute. I am hoping that she will like it when it is finished. This piece has challenged me to work small, which is not one of my strong points. Have a great wekend, I am hoping to go to the lake!!

A gift!!

Today's mail brought a beautiful gift of fibers from Joanne in NC!! I can't wait to work on DGD's crazzy quilts and use them!! I will be making 2 of them. One will be in greens, light soft colors (including the most beautiful green print of a dark haired baby sleeping that looks just like DGD) for Bella. The other one will be in shades of lavender for Faith. These will both be wall quilts for their bedrooms. Hoping they will have them until they are adults, so they have something I made! Thanks again Joanne so much for being such a sweet CQ friend!!

Finished block

I have finished my work on Veleta's block and it will be mailed out today. I hope that she likes what I have done. Here is my fall block that I have pieced. Next I need to embellish half of it and send it out. I really like this block already which is odd since I never like them until they have some embellishment on them! I can't wait for this one to be completed and see the final product. My summer block will be back in a few weeks completing my first ever work on someone else's block. Hoping that I measure up, but the ladies are so sweet no one would say that I didn't!! Have a great Wednesday!!

Birds and Nests

Yesterday I headed out to find the local shopping in the area. I found a nice JoAnn's (nothing like the ETC in AZ) but I will have to adjust-LOL. I got some lovely blue fabrics to work on a swap with Amber from CQ4N list. I will show pictures when it is done, for now it is pieced and has about 4 stitches in it! I wanted to share some pictures of the treasures I got at JoAnn's, if you love birds, nests this will make your heart sing. I found bird buttons on clearance, bird nests and bird eggs. Felt like I hit a homerun, not sure where I will go with these as the things I would have used with them are not here, but as I continue to hunt I may find things here that will work just as well. I also added the neat angel and leaf buttons that I also snagged!

Having one of those days

Ever have one...everything I touch turns to........ I bought dd a new living room lamp, brought it home, assembled it and went to put the top shade on (Picture short here) and dropped the glass shade on the carpeted floor-----a hundred pieces! Then ( should have known better now) went upstairs to put the mattress and springs into the new bed frame, first it wouldn't fit-then it did (!) but the frame split where it was connected to the side rail. Yep I cried!!! Wish I had stayed in bed today! Even had trouble taking pictures of my work, now that is really sad! Here are a couple pictures anyway. I did find the Flea Market today, that was on my to do list. It was ok, not alot of the things I like to collect, will take more time the next time. I am ading pictures of the little bird plates that I got for $3.I really want to sitch but fear that is beyond me, guess I will work on my own things and not Veleta's block. I have made some head way with it and will share. Experimenting with DD's camera since it is better than mine, LOL. I also included a hummer that I added to a CQ that I started abo9ut 10 yrs ago and plan to finish while I am in exile from my home VBG. Will post pictures as it progresses. I am not real happy with it but I started it and want to finish it, maybe alittle work on it will make me happier. Off to work on the long and short lessons on Mary's website http://www.needle'nthread.com/
Check it out, there are great videos included.

South Carolina

We arrived safely in South Carolina last evening. Today we are resting and trying to unload the car! The Grand Canyon on Thurs was beyond words.....so beautiful and we had great weather. From there we traveled on East ward. DH and the Ddog did well on the trip. I survived. I picked up a few treasures on the way pictures at the Canyon, a pinecone near the hotel at the Canyon, pebbles in NM and a rock in TX. After that the trip is a bit of a blur and I think I forgot to get anything else. Now we are trying to get used to living in someone else's home and sharing with her. She is a wonderful daughter to let us live here and help us try to get through the hurdles ahead. Will try to get back to blogging which I miss alot.

On the Road tomorrow

Tomorrow is the beginning of our big adventure so I am afraid that my blogging will be quiet for awhile. I will get back to it once we are in SC and settled. The car is jammed full, room only for the dh and ddog!! Hoping that everything else will fit in the trunk in the morning! Tomorrow we are going to the Grand Canyon, we have never been there before, hoping I will be able to find the camera when we get there!! Fri will find us on the road across the country! A couple pictures of some of my favorite things in our home in Sun City. The box with the Civil War ladies on it is lined with glass and has a mirror on the inside top, flea market find for $5, I keep my jewelry in it. The black velvet heart shaped box I decorated with lace and hand made roses. Finally the pink floral ceramic hand, I think it came from Ross and I think it is so cute. I keep it in our bathroom. Enjoy and I hope to be back soon.

Veleta's Summer Block

Today I received Veleta's summer block from CQ4Newbies to work on. She sent a beutiful block and I can't wait to work on it!! She must love to bead and I love to embroider so it should turn out great. I am alittle nervous since I have never worked on anyone else's block before. Poor Veleta gets to be the first!! The doll pictured here is a RR doll from the local doll club. I made the doll out of muslin and sent her on her way. She came home with a face, hair, and clothing! Isn't she beautiful. I will really miss the doll club when I leave, such wonderful ladies!! I will share the chair I made for her in the next post.
