Repainting, Embellishing, Repurposing Day!!!

Today has been a day to get things done for me, not real exciting you are thinking but for me it was!! I finished off the top made out of doilies, tea dyed it and then hung it to dry, picture at right. No it is not a great picture but you get the idea.

Then I got out the trusty spray paint, remember Krylon, your fingers will thank you, for getting saving $$ on the cheap stuff at Wally!!

First up is a $4 tiered rack I got at the above mentioned store, it was black (UGH!!) Now I love it and can't wait to use it. Then there is the previously dark green plate rack that I got on my trip to Amish in April, I think it is much prettier in white and goes so much nicer in my kitchen!!

Finally is the sweet sewing stand that I got at a sale for $22. It was brown and in good shape but it need some white paint too. It will look so nice with something on top and some sewing goodies inside!! It even has built in spool holders for thread. Sorry didn't think to take a picture of that part!!

The last thing is more sewing I saw this cute top idea twice in the past two days and decided enough I was gonna try it. I have loved this tie since the day I got it and couldn't bear to cut it up and it looks so girly!! LOL Check out Craft Gossip today for the link and better pictures of this idea. Mine still needs a pretty button added to it. I also have another one laid out and ready to sew. Let me know what you think!!
Blessings!!

Lace Painting and more Treasures!!

I promised to share the rest of Thursday's treasures so here they are. This cute wooden cupboard that is already being painted white! The glass front is missing and I am thinking about replacing it, or maybe not. $2 worth of little cupboard that can be hung on the wall. a small basket for 50 cents, three small china plates for 50 cents each, and they match the saucers I got a couple of weeks ago, how neat! I have decided that my dishes don't need to match, just have some pink in them!! Last but not least a wonderful encyclopedia book, 50 cents worth. I haven't had alot of time to go through it but there are some nice pictures and the pages are a wonderful aged color. Although printed in the 50s (when I was born for gosh sake!!!) I guess it qualifies as an antique and has some wonderful age/patina to the pages and cover!!

Lastly today is the lace that I have played with this afternoon. After visitng Nicki Lee's blog and etcy shop I couldn't help but wonder  what this was like and how it would turn out. I had some Luminere paints that I have had forever, saving them for some great project. When this was going to happen I didn't know. The lace was from last week's thrift store sopping. I knew there were flowers and leaves and since Ing's block for FFT#11 was flowers I thought I would give it a try. I put paint on the parchment paper I put out and tried it out. I loved the way it went on after I added water. The darkest ones were done before I watered it down. Once there is plenty of water in the paint it absorbs into the lace easily and is a nice pastel color. I played with both of the sets I had and  even mixed some colors. The peach color looked prettier in the bottle than it did on the lace, even watered down I thought. The above pictures were taken when the lace and paint are still wet, I will retake tomorrow to show you what the dry lace looks like. I am really pleased with my results and plan to do more of this in the future. My plan for the new creating room is to have all of the paints/brushes etc in one place at a table so this kind of fun can be done by just taking a glass of water to my room and starting. I hope this will work out since I like to paint everything: lace, fabric, paper, wood.....don't sit still you might get painted too!!!!

Hope you have a special weekend!!!

Deal of a Life Time! OMG

Yep it is Thurs, time to hit GoodWill!! Here is the Deal: a beautiful white wedding dress marked $75, included the slip, dress, and veil. My purchase price was $1!!!! Can you believe it???The pictures do not do it justice!! It is handmade, beautifully done and lots and lots of fabric, lace, sequins!! Yipee!! Even the headpiece is beautiful!! Pearls on the veil! I can't imagine that someone looking for a gown didn't snap this baby up! I need to pop it in the washer because it was never freshened up after it was worn, probably cost so much they decided to give it away! I am not sure what the fabric is, maybe silk, maybe a poly. It is darn beautiful no matter what it is. After we get moved and I have time to cut this one up I will give it the burn test and see what we have. For  the price I really don't care, because there is a dollar's worth of lace, trim, etc even if the fabric is poly. It would make beautiful pillows or other things if I decide to not use it for CQ. I got some other pieces today including a dining room wood chair for $15, nothing else compares to this dress though!!! LOL  Hubby says you always wanted a dress like that oh no wait you didn't either it has a bow on the butt!! He is so right, it has a huge bow with roses on it. Can't imagine why anyone would want to draw attention to their backside in a wedding dress, not even when you are tiny!! Have a creative and blissful day!!

Thrifty Thursday!

Yes it is Thursday and time for my weekly trip to Goodwill. Today was wool day: three beautiful blazers in wool fabric. Cream, cocoa brown and a pumpkin orange. Don't ya love them? It looks as if I went out to buy fabrics that went together, isn't it? These will get washed and fulled or felted (which ever term is correct) Can't wait to get them washed so I can go at them with the scissors. A lace vest , with MOP buttons is in the wash along with a gorgeous white drape. The drape is for the new home or if not it will get dyed and used in sewing, couldn't pass on it for $2!
On the left is a picture of the candle wraps that I have talked about. They need to have a backing or trim on the edge. I think I see another set in my future, as I would like to usee just pink and white, less prints. I am not real pleased with the way these turned out but they will work for starters. I think the beautiful white fabric will be a great center for the next set, part of DD's bridal gown. Please don't throw things, they are divorced and the dress was too beautiful to throw out or give away!!

Off to stuff red wool hearts made from last week's blazer! I have made at least 4 hearts, three small and one larger. I haven't really touched the main part of the jacket, so I am pleased with my $1 expense!
See ya all soon!! Blessings!

Pink Work

Here is the newest of the pink work embroidery. This one is pretty plain and not too exciting but I knew DD would love it as she loves butterflies. I still have to add the antenae to it and then it will be done.
Today was also dollar day at Goodwill. I picked up this cute wicker heart basket. It needs the paint touched up but for 50 cents, I also got two gorgeous silver colored candle holders, no pictures as they some how got left at the store and I hope they will be there when I return in the AM. They were a deal at 50 cents each! Victorian looking with small flowers. I picked up some clothing for CQ, buttons on several pieces and beading on a blouse collar. Planning to work on the quilt block tonight, then starting another pice of pink work tomorrow. Our sun is gone and we are being rained on, guess we deserve it after the last three gorgeous warm days. Tomorrow I am going to the storage unit and see if I can find one of my rotary cutters, man I miss not having one here and can't see spending the money when I know I have one!!
Blessings for a great weekend.
